12 Minutes Max

12 Minutes Max is a curated monthly performance series featuring short works by local artists in many disciplines.

We will see a dance trio featuring Jasmine Stack, Katy Ducos, and the trombone!, with music by Hal Jean on cello and Katy on trombone. The piece focuses on the connection between shapes and sound and movement. Katy Ducos is a musician who loves making music with her friends and exploring concepts of home. Hal Jean (of Hoofless) is a musician and composer currently focusing on improvised cello looping. Jasmine Stack is a choreographer and video artist currently based in Salt Lake City.

Choreographer Nichele Woods will present a new duet-in-progress, created collaboratively with Jonathan Kim and Natalie Border, and supported by Utah Arts & Museums, Deseret Experimental Opera and Westminster College. Nichele’s dances wrestle with questions of power and vulnerability. They have been presented on both coasts, and locally by Repertory Dance Theatre, Westminster College, and Ballet West Academy. Nichele is an adjunct instructor at Utah Valley University and a faculty member at Ballet West Academy where she runs and choreographs for Current. https://NicheleWoods.com  Jonathan Kim is a full-time company member with Repertory Dance Theatre and freelances in the community. From 2019-2021 Natalie Border was a company member of Vim Vigor, a New York physical theater company. She is currently working on a screen dance film.

Robust and charged, Molly Heller's new work “Promise the Moon” creates ongoing cinematic states within an orchestral soundscape. Eight performers interweave between internal and collective drive, curiosity and fixation, and confrontation as it meets change. This work asks: how do we know what we know? With direction by Molly, choreography by Molly with the performers: Stephanie García, Roxanne Gray, Henrik Gustafson, Lily Bella Hammons, Joshua Yago Mora, Abby Pace, Kellie St. Pierre, and Elle Malan Taylor. With music by Anna Meredith, Anna Von Hausswolff, and Mari Samuelsen. Molly Heller is the director of Heartland, a multidisciplinary collective centralized in Salt Lake City. She is also an Assistant Professor within the School of Dance at the University of Utah. Her research investigates the relationship between emotional states and physical expression. Molly currently performs nationally with NYC-based choreographer, Joanna Kotze.

This program is modeled after 12 Minutes Max, a performance laboratory originated by On the Boards in Seattle.
