Beautiful Earth by Miguel Alejandro Pabon Sanclemente

ART EXHIBIT RECEPTION

Opening reception for Beautiful Earth, by Miguel Alejandro Pabon Sanclemente. Exhibit runs from November 14, 2024–January 14, 2025.

Artist's Statement
I love to paint. It has been my passion since my early 30s when I began experimenting with colors, paints, subjects, and composition. I found inspiration in painting places I visited in the US Mountain West. I developed a self-taught workflow that guides my painting process, including awe, contemplation, realization, and joy. My compositions are created outdoors, drawn to the openness of nature. I mostly depict the outdoors with straight lines, geometry, bold traces, contrasting colors, and various tints, shades, and tones. The result often evokes warmth or cold, bright days or changing skies, reflecting the grandness and contrasts of open lands. Ultimately, I aim to convey the beauty of Utah landscapes and beyond in a colorful, playful, and contemporary format while enjoying the process.

Artist's Bio
I was born in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, and raised by a family who loved good food, beach time, and great parties. I majored in Biology in Merida and moved to Logan, UT in 2003 to study Biochemistry at Utah State University. After earning a Master's degree, I moved to Salt Lake City to mentor Biotechnology at Salt Lake Community College. There, I began creating art inspired by the outdoors. Now, I work at the University of Utah, researching how addictive substances affect fruit fly behavior. I'm a landscape painter and an outdoor enthusiast with a formal education and career in science, driven by a deep love for nature.

About the branch

This beautiful facility was designed to complement the Rose Park neighborhood with sensitivity to its site on the Jordan River Parkway. An open space plan, with a large community meeting room and outside deck area, will accommodate this growing community for many years.

The south property of the Day-Riverside Branch is home to TreeUtah's EcoGarden, a "food forest" where all members of the community can learn about urban farming and organic gardening. The Day-Riverside Branch has a meeting room available for public use that features tables, chairs, a projector screen, and a piano.

Free parking is available to the west of the building, and free wi-fi access is provided throughout the library.
